In Japanese, Kai has a number of meanings, including “ocean” (海), “shell” (貝), “open” (開), “restoration” and “recovery”.

Kai is a luxury multi residential apartment project nestled between a creek at the edge of the ocean and a national reserve that translates and embodies its qualities through the experience and architectural language of the project. KUD’s brief was to design a building with strong sustainable principles that reflected Kai’s core tenets translated architecturally as it would in life.

Kai’s facade is a series of curvilinear landscaped volumes which bring individuality and identity to each dwellings of the building and draws its inspiration from scalloped seashells. This intervention provides for dynamic and organic sculptural building which is more sympathetic to its context.
