Waterfall Tower is a mixed-use project that seeks to break the mould of the rectilinear extruded building typology. Situated in the heartland of what was once a thriving industrial area, the podium’s masonry box pays homage to the historical character of the district. The masonry volume creates a series of heavy elements that framed the base of the building. The infill glazed curtain wall between the frames incorporates an urban waterfall from water that has been harvested and recycled. This theatrical piece of urban art and theatre, also provides for a somewhat notional level of privacy to the public realm and simultaneously provides opportunities to create interesting lighting effects day and night through the diffracting waterfall.

The glass tower that sits above the podium cultivates a balanced tension between the two volumes of brick, and glass, and also creates a new layer for the emerging and future character of the area. The monolithic glass tower erodes the corners of the glazed volume to create an oscillating totem which provides for a different reading of the building throughout the various vistas of the city.
